Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses. We support family / unpaid carers who are looking after people with a diagnosis of dementia. We help carers find ways to cope, especially in complex situations and around transitions of care. We work together with other local services to help people get the support they need.

After we receive referrals we might need to gather more information, either from professionals or from the carer to understand more about the support needed and who might be able to help. If Admiral Nurse support is needed we will offer a telephone, clinic or home visit appointment with one of our admiral nurses to find out more about your situation and the sort of help you need, appointments usually last about an hour.
We will decide together at this appointment what happens next. People can step in and out of the service when needed, so you might see us for a few months, until things feel more manageable, and then not have any appointments arranged. If things change and you need to talk to us again, you can contact us at any point.
